In a recent article called Stamp Out Identity Theft by Sid Kirchheimer , published in the February 2005 edition of the AARP Bulletin. He discusses identity theft right out of your mail box from incoming mail. To me the most important part of this article is the section where Sid lists phone numbers and web sites to contact to have your name removed from these lists. They are as follows:
• To remove your name from lists sold to credit card companies by consumer reporting firms such as Equifax and Experian call 888-567-8688
•To stop solicitations and direct mailings get free forms by writing to Direct Marketing Association, Mail Preference Services, PO Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512.
•To remove yourself from Mortgage refinancing and home equity loan offers call Acxiom U.S. Consumer Hotline 877-774-2094 or write to DataQuick, Attn: Opt-Out Dept., 9620 Towne Center Drive, San Diego, Ca 92121.
